The End of Chevron Deference
In Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, the Supreme Court struck down the 40-year-old Chevron doctrine, fundamentally altering the balance of power between agencies and the judiciary.
What was Chevron?
Chevron deference required courts to defer to a federal agency's reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute. Its removal means judges, not unelected agency experts, will now resolve statutory ambiguities.
